The department
of cornea as a subspecialty came into function from
September 2003 in H. V. Desai Eye Hospital . We have
Dr. Sangita Wagh as the visiting cornea consultant,
Dr Shilpa Joshi who did a fellowship from L. V. Prasad
Eye institute (Oct.-Dec.2003) as a full timer.
Dr. Seema Jagdale is currently under training at Shankar
Netralaya and will be soon joining H. V. Desai Eye Hospital
.So far a the infrastructure goes, we have the corner
OPD with contact lens clinic.
In the OPD we have all the state of the art instruments
needed for examination of the patient, the latest addition
being the secular microscope .
We also have the microbiology and pathology laboratory where patients can
be directed for the relevant investigation . We also have got permission for setting up an eye bank , which will be
functional soon.
Currently in the cornea OPD, we see on an average 50 to 60 patients per
week. We have facilities for treating patients with trauma, acid and alkali
injuries and
infectious cases.
Once the eye bank come into operation, we will start
with the corneal grafting (penetrating keratoplasty)
surgery also.
