Orbis - To provide Paediatric Eye Care Services in Western Maharashtra, Part of Karnataka and Goa, a Three-year project in collaboration with Orbis International USA, commenced on 1^st March 2004.

Eye India 2004 - The IInd Biannual “EYE INDIA ’04” was held by HVDEH for community eye care on 10^th & 11^th of April. 350 delegates from all over the country attended the conference. In which special symposium on Paediatric Ophthalmology was organized.

Vision Building - A workshop to overview hospital progress, clinical and HR management as well as to implement the model Paediatric Ophthalmology Unit was held on 16^th to 24^th of April 2004. Mr. Natarajan, Mr. Kamlesh Guha, Ms. Shaonli Chakraborty, Mr. Bhagwat from Orbis International, Mr. Thulasiraj, Ms. Sheeladevi attended the event.

IHMS - Mr. Ganeshbabu from Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai visited the hospital for take an overview and to take inputs to implement the IHMS on 19^th and 20^th of June 2004. The IHMS is subjected to be implemented in January 2005.

Vision Centre - To provide and spread quality eye care services the Vision centers and fixed outreach center were established with advanced equipped instruments at Shivpuri - Akkalkot, Solapur, Sonapur – Pune, Osmanabad.

Photography, PR and Communications workshop - (28^th-30^th Sep.04)
Workshop on Photography, PR and Communication held at HVDEH. 15 participants from Drishti Netralaya Dahod Gujrat, Sankara eye center,Koimbtore, Rotary eye bank Navsari Gujrat, International eye bank Pune, Elmex eye bank Vadodara, Srikiran Institute of ophthalmology Kakinda, H.V.Desai Eye Hospital Pune were participated in workshop. The interactive session as well as cultural programs were held during the event.

World Sight Day - Col. M. Deshpande Medical Director H. V. Desai Eye Hospital participated in "National workshop on world sight Day 2004"organized by Government of India at Delhi on 14^th -16^th Oct 04 and presented paper on Outreach strategies for Cataract Surgeries.

Inauguration of New Pediatric Center - Inauguration of New Pediatric Center was held on 25^th Nov.2004 at HVDEH, with the presence of Dr. G. V. Rao, country Director ORBIS, International, U.S.A. Pediatric Eye Department was Inaugurated by Mr. S. B. Muzumdar, Director Symbiosis Institute Pune, and Mrs. Dipti Chaudhari, Mayor Pune.

HBP - Hospital Based Program- Dr. David Laws, Wales UK visited as voluntary faculty. Hospital Based Programme on congenital cataract was held during 29^thNov - 3^rd Dec.04. Dr. Davis Laws, from Wales UK was the voluntary faculty. 19 pediatric surgeries were performed in HBP .4 Ophthalmologist from HVDEH were trained during this HBP. Shaonli Chakraborty, Programme Manager ORBIS International facilitated the HBP. ORBIS partners from Hubli and Miraj also participated in HBP.A CME was organized on 3^rd Dec.04.Around 100 Ophthalmologist and optometrists were the CME.Dr. Laws gave lectures on Amblyopia -Why Bother? And congenital nystagmus. After Dr. Laws observations as he suggested one 20 feet room was made available in the pediatric unit for evaluation of strabismus case. More fixation targets purchased. Observation arm for operating microscope: Is under consideration for purchase.

IAPB Meeting at Dubai - IAPB meeting was held at Dubai during 20^th to 24^th Sep 04. Mr. N. Pandya, Executive Director, Dr. M. Deshpande, Medical Director, Dr .P. Gogate, HVDEH attended the meeting.
HVDEH presented four posters on following subject

1. Changing pattern of childhood blindness in Western Maharashtra.
2. Cause of poor outcome After Cataract surgery at H. V. Desai Eye Hospital, Pune, India.
3. Can the Developing countries afford manual incision cataract surgery? A cost comparison with ECCE surgery.
4. Safety, Efficiency and Phacoemulsification compared with manual small incision cataract surgery by a Marked Randomized clinical control trial.

A poster on "Changing pattern of Childhood Blindness in Western Maharashtra" was awarded Gold Medal for best poster.

CME at Hubli - CME on Pediatric Ophthalmology wes organized with M.M. Joshi eye Institute Hubli, Karnataka on 10^th.October 2004.170 Ophtolmogists from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa and Andhra Pradesh attended the CME. The financial help of rupees 20,000 was given to MM Joshi eye Institute.

Vision 2020 Workshop

National workshop on "Vision Center " was organized by Vision 2020-India group along with HVDEH at HVDEH,Pune on 21^st - 22^nd Dec.05. 50 participants from all over India participated in workshop. Prominent among them are Dr. G.V. Rao and Kamalesh Guha, ORBIS International, Madam Guanwathy Fernandez, CBM International, Dr. Bachani, ADG (O), Govt. of India , Dr. C. S. Shetty- LCIF, Dr. Jatin Shah- LCIF, Dr. P Namperumalswamy-AEH, Dr. Col. Madan Deshpande, Medical Director, HVDEH. Dr Madan Deshpande gave presentation on H. V. Desai eye hospital's experience of 'Vision center at Akalkot', which is a pediatric focused vision center supported by ORBIS International.

Evaluation of training - On 22^nd Dec.05 Dr. GVS Murthy from AIIMS conducted the evaluation of training received by HVDEH participants at AEH and Laico. Following individuals participated in the evaluation
