The existing global economic scenario recognizes optimal resource utilization as the prime factor in the effective and the efficient management of eye care hospitals. VISION 2020 - The Right to Sight estimates that the utilization of current infrastructure is 25% and has set an optimal utilization target of 90%. It is conservatively estimated that about 1000 institutions are providing eye care in South East Asia. Many of these hospitals have the potential to significantly enhance their service to the community in terms of volume and quality by adopting improved management strategies and clinical services. Tremendous cost savings are possible for eye care programs if the focus is shifted to efficient management of existing resources.

This certificate course on ‘Effective Management of Eye Hospitals” is specially developed to address this opportunity.

Who Can Participate
This course is designed for those individuals who are associated in the day-to-day administration and management of an eye hospital. The candidate must have working knowledge in Basic English, which will be the medium of instructions. The course will be useful for persons engaged in

Managing Patient Care – operations management; Outpatient-registration, reception & medical records; Inpatients – ward & operating room
Managing functional area – Service marketing; Human Resource Development; Finance; Purchase & stores

Training Objectives
At the end of the course the participants will be able tounderstand

The significance of cost effective sustainable eye care through increased demand and quality care.
The prevalence and incidence of eye diseases, common eye diseases, estimating workload, equipment and instruments in eye care, its utilization and basics of public health
Assimilate Skills to

Plan & Promote service delivery and generate demand for eye care
Develop strategies for quality assurance through patient centered care
Efficiently manage OPD, Ward and OR by patient care management, streamline patient flow, forecasting, staff scheduling, supplies, space & facilities planning, maintenance, etc.
Maximize the utility of the existing resources
Innovatively design appropriate systems essential for smooth functioning of the multifarious activities of the hospital
Improve managerial skills
Use office tools in monitoring and evaluating the performance of the hospital
Course Structure
The course is designed to develop leadership among mid level managers and to give a new perspective to the traditional concepts in hospital management. The course will have interactive class room sessions which include case studies, management games & exercises, presentations, etc with more emphasis placed on learning the practical aspects of running different departments or activities effectively. Further the course is enriched with hand-on experiences in possible areas. The core structure of the course is also applicable to other health care facilities as well.

The course will be held at PBMA’S H.V.DESAI EYE HOSPITALS, Hadapsar, Pune, Maharashtra, India

Duration
2 weeks from 26th October to 7th November 2009

Course Fee
Rs.15,000 (includes teaching, course material, field visits and working lunch).

Rs.5,000 for shared accommodation in the hospital premises. Please write to us for the charges of single room accommodation which can be arranged at nearby hotels.

The course fee & accommodation charges has to be sent along with the application by Demand Draft (D.D.) drawn in favour of PBMA’S H.V.DESAI EYE HOSPITAL payable at Pune, Maharashtra.

Admission Procedures:
Admission is limited to about 25 participants and will be made on first come basis. The application and Demand Draft should be sent to the Course coordinator by 30th September 2009 and applications received after that will be reviewed and admitted subject to space availability.
