Diabetic Retinopathy Workshop

On 25th January 2009 a workshop on Diabetes & Diabetic Retinopathy Emerging Problem was organized by Indian Medical Association, Pune branch and H. V. Desai Eye Hospital, Dr. Nitu Mandke IMA House, Tilak Road, Pune. Total 100 Doctors attended the workshop.
Dr. C. S. Yajnik, Director, KEM Hospital, Diabetes unit, gave information about Diabetes Management & prevention of Micro Vascular complication. Col. Dr. Madan Deshpande, Chief Medical Director, H. V. Desai Eye Hospital, talked about H.V. Desai Eye Hospital and its partnership with IMA to tackle emerging problem of Diabetes and its complications. Dr. Sucheta Kulkarni, Deputy Director & HOD of Retina Department, H. V. Deasai Eye Hospital, made presentation on Diabetic Retinopathy and Dr. Kuldeep Dole, Deputy Director, H. V. Desai Eye Hospital provided information regarding Diabetic Retinopathy project started at H. V. Desai and appealed all the members of IMA to participate by helping to arrange Diabetes detection and Diabetic Retinopathy screening camps and referring the patients with Diabetes Mellitus to H. V. Desai for screening Diabetic Retinopathy.
In an attempt to ascertain incidence of diabetes retinopathy in the Pune city and prevent its further growth, the Indian medical association (IMA), Pune branch, H. V. Desai eye Hospital and the diabetes unit from KEM hospital have decided to form a chain of Diabetes Retinopathy Clinics (DRCs) all over the city. The aim is to diagnose patients at an early stage and make them aware of this progressive blindness.
In these clinics, diabetes patients would be screened for diabetes retinopathy and related complications. The patients suffering from eye problems would be examined further by a team of eye specialists and would be followed up for treatment thereafter.
