


Parwati Shankar Kulkarni a 70 yrs old woman .She is living in a village Karkambh , District Solapur with her husband. A village located about 120 k.m away from the city. Where there is lack of regular transport, electricity, water and healthcare etc.. Parwati and her husband are landless laborers. They have one son, who lives separate after marriage, who is not looking after them.
Parwati and her husband both work on daily wages and earn, which is insufficient for them to fulfill their daily needs and their work is not regular also. Every day Parwati works in farm and also do household work. She goes 4-5 km away to get the water every day, and then collect the fuel for cooking. These activities were hampered because of falling sight in both the eyes.
She suffered like that for 6 months it was becoming very difficult for the couple to run the house. Then the calamity happened the landlord asked her to stop the work as she was making mistakes in the work. She lost her earning source. Now only husband was earning and that was not sufficient for their survival
She discussed this problem with one of her neighbor who advised her to go to Helpage India Free Eye Camp. She went to the eye camp at karkambh where she was examined by the doctor who told her that her both eyes has developed cataract. Doctor suggested her to undergo cataract surgery at H. V. Desai Eye Hospital, Pune. But her question was how to go to Pune as she has no money to travel then doctor told her that the hospital bus will take her along with other patients and for that she don’t have to spend anything . Then she decided to come to Pune along with other individuals from the village.
