A brief word about our contact lens clinics- it was started in 2003 and since then we have catered to hundreds of patients, apart from training our graduate & postgraduate optometry students, interns, postgraduate resident doctors, fellows & many practicing ophthalmologists.

This year (2010) till 15 November 2010 we have done 210 contact lens fittings. Details are as below:

Department of Cornea

Department of Cornea has been existing in H. V. Desai Eye Hospital since 2003. The department is managed by 3 Cornea consultants –
Dr. Shilpa Joshi (Fellow of LVPEI)
Dr. Seema Jagdale (Fellow of Shankara
Netralaya)
Dr. Pranav More (Fellow of Aravind Eye Hospital)
Each one of them has received specialized training (fellowships) in Cornea & External Diseases of the eye from renowned institutes.
The department is well equipped with investigative modalities like videokeratograph (V.K.G), specular microscope and slit lamp biomicroscope with camera facilities.

A full filled glaucoma department has been functional from 2002 December. Glaucoma is a slowly progressive disease of the optic nerve which may be lead to considerable visual impairment. Most commonly it is due to a raised pressure within the eye.
Here, at HVDEH, a team of 2 glaucoma consultants work together towards diagnosing and treating this silent but dreaded problem. All state of art equipment is available for diagnosis various types of glaucoma. YAG laser treatment; Medical and surgical treatment for glaucoma is carried out in our hospital.

Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus

Department of Vitroretina has been existing in H. V. Desai Eye Hospital since 2003. The department has all the latest equipments like Digital fundus camera, ultrasound, B- scan , Double frequency YAG laser, Diode laser; for operation theater services there is accurus vitrectomy machine.
All types of cases like diabetic retinopathy, Retinal vascular diseases, posterior uveitis , Age related macular degenerations, Retinopathy of prematurity, etc are routinely seen and treated regularly.

The LVA department at H. V Desai Eye Hospital, Pune provide low vison services at primary, secondary and trtiary levels.
Community workers, at the grass root screen patients, who arein need of LVA and refer them to the base hospital where an expert team to the base hospital where an expert team of doctors and optometertists examine the patients and provide them the needful services.

We offer both out-patient services and in-patient services at our hospital.Our Out-patient services work on all days except Sundays and festival holidays. Depending on the nature of the problems, patients are diagnosed and treated as out patients. However, if the treatment requires special procedures or surgeries, patients are advised of the facilities available and are counseled suitably
The Department of Orbit and Oculoplasty at H V Desai Eye Hospital, deals with the management of diseases and abnormalities of the orbit, eyelids and the lacrimal system.

What is Cataract?
Normally, the lens of the eye is clear and allows light rays to pass through easily.When a cataract develops, the lens becomes cloudy and opaque. The light rays no longer pass through the lens easily, so the patient cannot see clearly.
Cataract is not a new growth or a film over the eye. In most cases, it is just part of the aging process. It is not contagious
